Diabetic Foot Care in Townsville
Diabetes can significantly affect the health of your feet — reducing circulation, impairing sensation and increasing the risk of infections and ulcers. Regular podiatry care is one of the most important steps you can take to protect your feet and prevent serious complications.
At healthiaHUB Aitkenvale, our experienced podiatrists provide thorough diabetic foot assessments and ongoing management for patients across Townsville, including Aitkenvale, Hyde Park, Pimlico, Rosslea and surrounding suburbs.
What’s Included in a Diabetic Foot Assessment?
- Circulation assessment — checking blood flow to the feet using digital vascular testing
- Neurological check — testing sensation to identify early signs of peripheral neuropathy
- Skin and nail assessment — identifying dryness, calluses, ulcers or nail problems
- Footwear review — ensuring your shoes are appropriate and not causing pressure or friction
- Risk stratification — determining how frequently you need to be seen based on your current foot health
How Often Should I Have a Foot Check?
The frequency of diabetic foot checks depends on your risk level. Low-risk patients may only need an annual check, while those with peripheral neuropathy, poor circulation or a history of foot ulcers may need to be seen every 1–3 months. Our podiatrists will advise you on the appropriate review schedule for your situation.
Do I Need a Referral?
No referral is needed to book a diabetic foot assessment. However, if you have a GP Management Plan (EPC), you may be entitled to Medicare-subsidised podiatry visits — bring your referral letter and Medicare card to your appointment.
